Nutrition During Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is a very important phase when there are a number of demands on you. Hence, do pay special attention to your diet and nutrition as this will impact on your health as well as on your baby’s health.

TotalPregnancyCare gives you some general advice on your nutrition during breastfeeding.

What should my caloric intake be during breast-feeding?

Your daily calorie requirement is based on your weight, age, height and activity level. During breastfeeding, your body needs around 800 more calories each day to produce 25 to 35 ounces of breast milk. Thus, if your pre-breastfeeding daily calorie requirement is calculated at 1900 calories, it is increased to 2400 calories per day once you start breastfeeding your baby.
